This election will probably end as it started

Despite the advertising and hype, elections are usually a continuation of the same contests that led up to them, and this campaign seems like no exception.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd came back to salvage some votes for Labor and has done the job. I am not sure he will do any more. Only time will tell.

Reserve Bank tipped to cut rates to 2.5pc

The economy is set to dominate day two of the federal election campaign, with the Reserve Bank tipped to cut interest rates to a historic low this afternoon.

Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey raised eyebrows yesterday when he said: "We should not be in a position where interest rates are being cut because the economy should be growing faster."

Our live blog will have developments as they happen throughout today, and every day of the campaign.
