Conroy labels Rudd's leadership rules a 'farce'

Labor Senator Stephen Conroy has slammed Kevin Rudd's new rules for choosing the ALP's leader, saying they make the party a "laughing stock".

The rules stipulate that the leader must be elected jointly by the party membership and by Caucus, with each given equal weighting.

Senator Conroy said the Coalition are "getting away with murder" while Labor's leadership remains in a vacuum.

"We've got no leader, no frontbench, no shadow spokespersons who are able to lead the debate for us, and this will descend into complete and utter farce," he said.

After three years of campaigning, how about a rest...

Just as we learn from our mistakes, so do we learn from the triumphs of others.

Uni student petitions Coalition to scrap NBN plan

A 20-year-old Queensland university student is hoping to use the power of the internet to change the new Coalition Government's mind about the National Broadband Network.

An internet petition calling for the Coalition to scrap its plans to create a fibre-to-the-node network has had more than 110,000 signatures in just five days.

Twenty-year-old Liberal-voting student Nick Paine created the online petition in protest at the Liberal party's plans to switch to a $29.5 billion fibre-to-the-node model.

He wants the new government to continue rolling out a $44.1 billion fibre-to-the-premises network.
