Live: Emergency warnings in place for NSW bushfires

New South Wales residents are suffering through another day of dangerous bushfires with the state's Hunter, Central West and Southern Highlands under immediate threat.

Emergency warnings have been issued for bushfires burning out of control near Lithgow, Wollongong, Camden, Newcastle, Muswellbrook, South Nowra and the Blue Mountains.

Rob Rogers, Rural Fire Service (RFS) Deputy Commissioner, has told 702 ABC Sydney that it is "a pretty bad afternoon" and that there are major concerns for threatened properties.

Total fire bans are in place until midnight for areas including Greater Sydney, plus the Central Ranges, North Coast and North Western districts.

The weather bureau has forecast temperatures will hit the mid-30s and that wind gusts could reach up to 80 kilometres per hour.
