Recovery effort at MH17 crash site halted as nation prepares day of mourning

The Netherlands has announced it will halt the mission to recover victims and debris from the MH17 crash site due to increased fighting between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian rebels.

The Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte says the risk posed to the team of 70 Australian, Dutch and Malaysian experts is too great to continue working in the area.

Thirty-eight Australian citizens and residents were among those killed when the Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down on July 17.

An official memorial service will be held in Melbourne today for the victims.

Driverless car may ease city parking demands: ex-GM exec
