Houses destroyed in burn-off gone wrong

Authorities are still fighting to contain the southern boundary of a fire which has destroyed or damaged up to 20 homes near Margaret River, in Western Australia's south-west.

The fire, which started when two controlled burns got out of hand, has been burning since Wednesday morning and has forced dozens of locals to flee their homes and take shelter in an evacuation centre.

The blaze has raged over an estimated 1,800 hectares of forest and farming property near Prevelly and Kilcarnup, which are close to the tourist town of Margaret River.
