ACTU suspends Health Services Union

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has voted overwhelmingly to suspend the beleaguered Health Services Union (HSU) from its ranks.

Fair Work Australia this week announced it had found 181 breaches of the rules in a three-year probe into the HSU.

Amid the controversy, ACTU secretary Jeff Lawrence yesterday said the peak union body was compelled to act to send a message of zero tolerance for corruption.

Today, delegates voted 1797 to 103 in favour of the suspension.
