Abbott considers axing family 'hand-out'

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott indicates a Coalition government would consider scrapping some of the extra family payments announced in this year's budget.

The budget, which was handed down on Tuesday, includes an increase to Family Tax Benefit Part A which the Coalition says it will not try to block in Parliament.

But Mr Abbott says if the Coalition is elected he would scrap the carbon tax and therefore the need for the benefit increase would disappear.
