Election live: Kevin Rudd's gay marriage defence goes viral

Kevin Rudd's defence of gay marriage on Q&A last night has got people talking this morning, after the PM quoted St Paul in response to a question from a Christian pastor who asked how he could support same-sex unions "if you call yourself a Christian".

The pastor in the Brisbane audience had asked the PM how he could support gay marriage when the Bible teaches that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

The Prime Minister responded by suggesting that line of thinking would also make slavery an acceptable proposition.

Away from that debate, the latest polls bear more bad news for Labor, with Newspoll figures showing the party struggling in key marginals in Mr Rudd's home state of Queensland.
