Smoke pours from mall as Kenyan forces move in

The Kenyan government says it has taken control of the entire Nairobi shopping mall where Islamist militants have been besieged for more than two days.

The attackers from the Al Qaeda-linked militant group Al Shabaab struck the crowded Westgate shopping centre on Saturday, killing at least 62 people including Tasmanian man Ross Langdon.

The group then took hostages, forcing a protracted operation by security forces to dislodge them.

Interior minister Joseph Ole Lenku says the military is now at the tail end of the operation and he believes most of the hostages have been rescued.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has condemned the attack and says she cannot rule out further Australian fatalities.
