Vote Compass: Who are Australia's undecided voters?

Australia's undecided voters are younger, less politically engaged and more likely to be women than those who know how they are going to vote in Saturday's federal election, Vote Compass data reveals.

About one in eight Vote Compass respondents said they remained undecided about who to vote for.

Among undecided voters, 37 per cent indicated they were leaning towards voting Labor, 27 per cent were leaning towards the Coalition and 17 per cent towards the Greens.

Use our interactive charts to explore who the undecided voters are and the issues that matter to them.

Political conviction comes apart at the seams

Why is the Coalition trying to featherbed parental leave? And why is Labor advocating cruelty to asylum seekers?

Conservatives still cling to a steady doctrine of small government, free markets, and individualism, while ALP continues to espouse its belief in big government, the redistribution of wealth, and the protective social merit of unionisation.

But both parties are more than happy to leave their political convictions behind when it comes to appealing to the only voters who matter: the marginal ones.

Election live: Coalition costings out, Rudd to speak at Press Club

The Coalition will release its long-awaited costings figures in Melbourne today, after the election ad blackout came into effect overnight, killing Labor's ability to run attack ads based on the figures.

Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey will say the budget would be $6 billion better off over the forward estimates under a Coalition government, and debt would be paid down by $16 billion over the period.

Meanwhile PM Kevin Rudd is the lunchtime guest at the National Press Club in Canberra, and is expected to deliver a speech to promote the Government's economic record and renew claims a Coalition government could drive Australia into recession.
