IMF issues global recession warning

The IMF has warned that the US and the eurozone are at increased risk of falling back into recession, a move which it says could threaten other economies worldwide.

IMG chief economist Oliver Blanchard issued the warning as he released the IMF's latest World Economic Outlook report in Washington.

Singling out Europe as a "major source of worry", he said the continent's political leaders needed to take charge and deal with the worsening sovereign debt crisis.

Investors have questioned Europe's ability to come up with a convincing solution to its festering sovereign debt crisis.
