ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Overnight, huge explosions killed at least seven people and injured hundreds in an industrial area of Tianjin, China. A massive fireball was caught on video. Eight Australians are on Islamic State's hacking hitlist, including Defence employees and a state MP. And Coalition frontbencher Scott Morrison says we need a referendum to settle the same-sex marriage debate. Labor says that's what Parliament is for.

Don't miss: our look inside one of Russia's troll factories, where Kremlin workers patrol social media to shut down debate.

Coming up today: At 7.35am AEST, Environment minister Greg Hunt will speak to Radio National. At 11am AEST, Telstra will reveal its full-year profit results. Also at 11am AEST, the National Portrait Gallery opens its exhibition of somewhat-nude Australian personalities. At 11.15pm AEST, the MUA is taking Hutchison Ports to the federal court. At 12pm AEST, comet 67P makes its closest pass to the Sun, with the Philae lander on board.
