BREAKING NEWS: Tuesday 11 August 2015
Government to take 26 per cent reduction target to Paris conference
The Federal Government will announce today it plans to cut carbon emissions by at least 26 per cent by 2030.

The ABC understands federal Cabinet has agreed to set a target range from 26 per cent based on 2005 levels — and it is believed that could go up to 28 per cent depending on the economic impact.

The policy will be discussed at the Liberal and National party room meeting this morning.

Australia will join other countries in committing to national reduction targets at a UN climate summit in Paris in December. Canada will offer a target of 30 per cent, while Japan will offer 25 per cent.
