ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Thailand's junta chief says the Bangkok bombing prime suspect is linked to the heartland of the Red Shirt protest movement. (Analysts disagree.) An armed robber who escaped a NSW prison by tying bedsheets together and putting a pillow over his waist to scale a razor-wired wall has been caught. And Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken a mini-sub to explore a shipwreck off Crimea.

Coming up today: At 9.30am AEST there'll be half-year profit results from Woodside; also today expect full-year results from SEEK, iiNet, Stockland and others. At 10.30am AEST, we're promised a "major announcement" at the National Gallery. At 11.00am AEST, the Defence Force will give an update on Australian operations in the Middle East. At 12pm AEST, a decision is due in the civil trial of former union official Kathy Jackson. At 12.30pm AEST, the AFL's CEO Gillon McLachlan speaks at the National Press Club.
