Monitors hear pleas for intervention in Syria

Thousands of anti-government protesters turned out in Syria to meet a team of Arab League monitors and beg for foreign intervention to stop the government's long-running crackdown.

A team of Arab League observers visited the central city of Homs where some of the worst violence has taken place since the uprising began in March.

Residents followed them as they walked through streets of shattered and shelled buildings, with many pleading for international protection.
