Gillard scores resounding win

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has promised Australians the political drama is over after she defeated Kevin Rudd 71 to 31 in a ballot for the Labor leadership this morning.

After days of vitriol and spite, Ms Gillard has called on Labor MPs to stop the "ugly" leadership debate.

Mr Rudd conceded it was a "strong win" and has pledged his loyalty to Ms Gillard.
