Live blog: Showdown for PM

Kevin Rudd is expected to challenge Julia Gillard for the Labor leadership at 10am AEDT, but it is widely believed he does not have the support needed to depose the PM.

8am: The ABC's Naomi Woodley tweets that Kevin Rudd has denied leaking against the government during the 2010 election.

7:48am: Finance Minister Penny Wong isn't giving specific numbers but she tells Michael Rowland she anticipates a very strong expression of support for the PM in today's Labor caucus vote.

7:40am: Immigration Minister Chris Bowen tells Lyndal Curtis he was not pressured into backing Kevin Rudd and he doesn't regret the decision. He says he is able to serve in the Cabinet if the PM still wishes him to.
