The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS) is urging the community not to be complacent about the dangers presented by bushfires after several major blazes were downgraded. The RFS says its aggressive and high-risk strategies paid off yesterday, with no homes lost in the face of extreme heat and strong winds. Cooler conditions are predicted for today, but there are 64 fires still burning around the state, with 24 uncontained. RFS crews will continue to battle the blazes today and are urging to community to remain vigilant. Four watch-and-act alerts remain in place for the State Mine fire near Lithgow, the Mount Victoria fire, the Linksview Road fire near Springwood and the Hall Road fire in the Southern Highlands.
