NewsMail Afternoon Edition Thu 24 Jul, 2014 Top Stories More Top Stories » Suspended Nitschke hits out at 'dirty little midnight assassination' Voluntary euthanasia advocate Philip Nitschke has hit out at his suspension by the Medical Board of Australia as a "dirty little midnight assassination," saying he had very little to do with a Perth man who took his own life. The board last night suspended Dr Nitschke after he supported Nigel Brayley, 45, in his decision to commit suicide, despite knowing he was not terminally ill. "My feeling is in retrospect that this a clear case of a person deciding to die rather than spend the next 20 years in jail," Dr Nitschke said, referring to Mr Brayley as an "alleged serial killer". Police were treating the 2011 death of Mr Brayley's wife Lina as a murder case, but Mr Brayley was never named as a suspect. Children and their families are plagued by despair and helplessness at the seemingly endless period of detention. A number of young mothers are on 24-hour suicide watch. These conditions raise concerns that Australia risks serious violation of its fundamental obligations at international law to protect asylum seekers without discrimination. The report from Moody's Analytics finds that Australian home prices are generally around their 'fair value' at current interest rates, and under existing government housing subsidies. However, the report warns that all of Australia's housing markets, except South Australia, would be overvalued if interest rates rose back to normal levels and pushed up mortgage repayments.
