NewsMail Morning Edition Sun 27 Jul, 2014 Top Stories More Top Stories » Hamas rejects Israel offer to extend Gaza ceasefire Palestinian group Hamas has rejected Israel's offer to extend a humanitarian truce in Gaza by a further 24 hours. After the ceasefire began early on Saturday (local time), Gazans took advantage of the lull in fighting to retrieve their dead and stock up on supplies. At the end of the initial 12-hour halt to fighting, Hamas militants ignored an Israeli announcement that it would extend the truce by four hours and resumed firing rockets into Israel from Gaza. Israel's security cabinet then approved a United Nations request to extend the truce by 24 hours, but reserved the right to "act against any breach of the ceasefire". The IMF says the global economy will grow by 3.4 per cent this year, down from its April forecast of 3.7 per cent. The revision reflects a weak first quarter in the US which makes up almost a quarter of global GDP. The IMF's forecast for China has also been lowered to 7.4 per cent from 7.6 per cent, with problems in the country's housing market noted. Agricultural scientists say drones could soon become regular farming equipment along with tractors and combine harvesters. Drone pilot and agricultural scientist Will Bignell, who has created a business using drones, said the sky was the limit for the device. "We can map out digital elevation [for drainage planning]... or map out a creek that might run through a paddock and show the highest points and lowest points to about a 2 cm accuracy," Mr Bignell said.
