Live: Two hostages and gunman die as Lindt cafe siege ends in shootout

Two hostages and the gunman at the centre of a 16-hour siege at a cafe in Sydney's CBD have died.

Loud explosions and yelling could be heard from outside the Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Sydney's Martin Place when armed police stormed the building about 2.00am (AEDT).

"I come before you with a heaviest of hearts. Unbelievably overnight, we have lost some of our own in an attack we never thought we would see here in our city," NSW Premier Mike Baird said.
