ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Australia has joined more than 20 countries in the race to find a prehistoric ice core that could reveal why the cycle of ice ages slowed down a million years ago. Read more about the million year ice core here

  • A bombing at Egypt's main Coptic Christian cathedral has killed 25 people and injured another 49. It's one of the deadliest attacks against a minority in Egypt in recent history

  • Donald Trump says he does not believe reports Russian hackers intervened in the US election on his behalf. He's called the intelligence findings "ridiculous"

Twins Kara and Jenna are 24 years old, but due to their intellectual disabilities, parents Sue and David still have to care for them as though they're small children. The twins are on a waiting list to get into a residential care home, but their parents say they worry they'll be caring for their children until they're "in their graves".

Here's what's coming up:

  • 10:00am AEDT: A man is expected to appear in a Brisbane court charged with manslaughter after an October incident where two construction workers were crushed to death on a job site

  • 11:30am AEDT: Dylan Voller — the teen filmed being teargassed in the NT's Don Dale youth detention centre — is due to give evidence at a royal commission

  • 12:00pm AEDT: A preliminary report into South Australia's state-wide black-out will be released by the Australian Energy Market Operator

  • 12:45pm AEDT: Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will speak to the Lowy Institute about Australia's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council in 2018-2020
