ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • A man arrested in Perth yesterday is being interviewed by police in connection to the Claremont serial killings, the ABC understands. The case, involving the deaths of three women between 1996 and 1997, is Australia's longest-running and most expensive police investigation

  • Taxpayers were billed almost $200,000 to turn the Sydney Opera House green in a promotion for the 2016 census. Internal documents described the move as a "major public relations opportunity", but the promotion didn't include any information about the census, branding or a hashtag

  • The Bureau of Meteorology has released its Christmas weather forecast for Australia's capital cities. Sydney and Brisbane should expect a mild weekend, but people in Victoria and South Australia have been told to prepare for a scorcher

Wikipedia has revealed its most-edited pages of the year and an article detailing notable deaths in 2016 topped the list. Pages on Donald Trump, the 2015 season of an Argentinian dance competition and the year in South Korean music also made the top 10.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 1:00pm AEDT: A decision will be delivered on the bankruptcy application against senator Rod Culleton

  • 6:00pm AEDT: The Sydney Sixers take on the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL

  • 7:50PM AEDT: The Brisbane Roar face the Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League

  • 8:00pm AEDT Sydney FC will play the Brisbane Roar in the W-League
