ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • The ABC has been told New South Wales Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian has the numbers to replace Mike Baird as Premier. Mr Baird announced his resignation earlier today

  • Billboards featuring two girls in hijabs will be installed nationwide after a crowdfunding campaign raised more than $125,000 in 24 hours. The sign was removed earlier this week after the advertising company was abused and threatened

  • Vegemite will return to Australian ownership. Dairy company Bega will pick up the spread in a deal to buy most of Mondelez International's Australian and New Zealand grocery and cheese business.

What will Barack Obama do during his last day in power? It's likely he'll pen a letter to Donald Trump before sharing tea with the new president. But there's a good chance there will be some exit pranks planned as well.

Here's what's coming up tonight:

  • 6:30pm AEDT: Australian Daria Gavrilova faces Ana Konjuh in the second round of the Australian Open

  • 6:50pm AEDT: Melbourne City take on the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League
