One of the joys of running a weekly national opinion poll is the amount of data you receive over the course of a year: more than 500 questions, indicators of where the public sits on a particular issue at a particular moment in time.

Look at each question in isolation and it appears like a thought bubble - but look at the movements over the year and something more dynamic emerges, the sense in which a nation moves as history unfolds.
