National anti-gang squad to join fight against Gold Coast's outlaw bikies

A new federal anti-gang squad will be sent to Queensland's Gold Coast to help the State Government in its crackdown on bikie gangs.

The announcement from federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan today came as the State Government stepped up security at key government buildings in Brisbane's CBD amid fears of a backlash by outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Mr Keenan said officers from the Australian Federal Police and Australian Crime Commission would be sent to the Gold Coast to assist the existing Queensland strike force before being deployed in New South Wales and Victoria.

"They're going to be tough, but they're going to work, and we're going to make sure we can roll them out as soon as we can," he said.
