Abbott repays travel expenses claimed for Mirabella's wedding

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has repaid more than $1,000 in taxpayer-funded travel expenses he claimed when he attended the 2006 wedding of former colleague Sophie Mirabella.

A spokeswoman for Mr Abbott says the money was reimbursed because the Finance Department is not sure the trip was within his entitlements, and he wanted to avoid any doubt.

It comes as Liberal MPs Julie Bishop, Barnaby Joyce and Teresa Gambaro face scrutiny for claiming taxpayer travel to fly back to Australia after a wedding in India in 2011.

Frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull has defended his colleagues, but acting Labor leader Chris Bowen says there are still questions to be answered.

Regrettably, feisty and engaging female characters are fairly few and far between on the ABC's channel for younger kids, ABC4Kids.

A quick look at the line-up reveals that the hefty majority have male characters in the spotlight, with the characters in the supporting roles only sometimes female, and usually differentiated by their pink attire and absurdly long eye lashes.

That's why we need more characters like Peppa Pig.

Militant linked to deadly embassy bombings captured in US raid

American forces have staged a broad daylight raid in Libya, capturing a long-sought Al Qaeda leader wanted over the 1998 bombings of two US embassies.

Abu Anas al-Libi has already been indicted in a US court for the bombings of the embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people.

He has been on the run for 15 years, and his capture in Tripoli paves the way for him to face trial in the US.

Libi's capture was part of apparent twin raids by US special operations forces, after US Navy SEALs staged a separate assault on a senior Al Shabaab militant leader in Somalia.
