Plibersek and Bowen tipped for roles on Shorten's frontbench

Federal Labor MPs will meet today to elect a deputy and frontbench team for their new leader Bill Shorten.

Mr Shorten was named Labor leader yesterday after narrowly beating Anthony Albanese in a ballot of the Caucus and, for the first time, party members.

Mr Shorten is expected to convene a Caucus meeting today as the focus now shifts to the frontbench, which is not expected to be announced until Friday.

Tanya Plibersek is widely expected to be voted in as deputy opposition leader and Chris Bowen, who briefly served as treasurer in Kevin Rudd's second government, is tipped to be treasury spokesman.
