WA readies as tropical cyclone declared

Western Australia's Pilbara and Kimberley regions are on high alert with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a cyclone could make landfall as early as Monday.

The weather bureau says Tropical Cyclone Christine, located about 260 kilometres north-west of Broome, was predicted to make landfall near Karratha late on Monday or early on Tuesday as a category three storm.

The bureau says if the cyclone develops as predicted, heavy rainfall and gale-force winds will affect the west Kimberley and Pilbara over the coming days.
