Punch suspect may face murder charge over Daniel Christie's death

New South Wales prosecutors are considering laying murder charges following the death of teenager Daniel Christie, who was punched on New Year's Eve.

The 18-year-old died yesterday after his family decided to switch off his life support.

Christie had been in a critical condition for 11 days after he was assaulted during a night out in Sydney's Kings Cross on December 31.

Builder Shaun McNeil, 25, has been charged with maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm over the attack on Christie and remains in custody.

Attorney-General Greg Smith says he has asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to consider upgrading the charges to murder.
