Former AFP officer pleads guilty to copying crime victim's sex video

A former Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer has pleaded guilty to secretly copying the private sex video of a crime victim and then showing it to one of his colleagues.

Alexander Preston-Stanley, 27, from Macgregor, will be sentenced in March after pleading guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court to breaching the secrecy provisions of the AFP Act.

On April 24, 2013, Preston-Stanley, then a probationary constable, was asked to speak to a woman who had come into the Tuggeranong Police Station to ask for help.

As he was going through her mobile phone, he noticed a private sex video involving her and decided to secretly re-record it on his phone.

He was not caught out until he showed it to a fellow officer who recognised the woman and reported it to the AFP Professional Standards unit.

Devolving curriculum decisions down to the school level ought to satisfy both critics of Kevin Donnelly and critics of the curriculum as it stands. And it would instantaneously end the culture war that everybody seems so worried about.

Retail giants cement global dominance, eye Australia

The world's biggest retailers have increased revenue despite economic weakness, and are eying further expansion into markets such as Australia.

Climate change threatens native eucalypts

The future is looking grim for some species of Australian eucalyptus trees, as they feel the impact of more severe heatwaves, droughts and floods.
