Rolf Harris sentence to be reviewed amid claims it is too lenient

Britain's attorney-general has been asked to consider whether the prison sentence imposed on Rolf Harris of five years and nine months for sexual offences is too lenient.

The Australian entertainer was last night jailed for five years and nine months after a jury found him guilty of 12 charges of indecently assaulting four girls in the UK between 1968 and 1986.

Although Justice Nigel Sweeney told London's Southwark Crown Court the 84-year-old had shown no remorse for his crimes, he ordered half the sentence to be non-custodial.

Harris's jailing comes as more women come forward claiming to have been assaulted by the disgraced star.

Digital disruption could cost Australian banks $27 billion a year

Australia's big banks face the prospect of losing 30 per cent of their revenue to a new wave of digital competitors.

Research from Macquarie's banking analysts says up to $27 billion is under threat from so-called digital disruptors in the banks' key payments and lending markets.

The Macquarie team says most immediate threat is the $9 billion payments market, which faces competition from alternative platforms.

Longer term, Macquarie says banks face an even bigger problem with their lending business.
