Senate rejects carbon tax repeal after eleventh-hour Clive Palmer switch

The Abbott Government's bid to bring on an early Senate vote to repeal the carbon tax has backfired after an eleventh hour switch from the Palmer United Party to withdraw its support.

The lunchtime vote was rejected 37 votes to 35.

Mr Palmer claimed that PUP amendments to force power companies to pass on savings from the carbon tax's repeal had not been submitted for Senate scrutiny this morning.
