Clive Palmer lashed for demanding obedience from Senate clerk

Members of the Upper House have leapt to the defence of the Senate clerk after Clive Palmer said she should "get out of that job" if she is not prepared to act on his instructions.

The Government's attempts to pass the carbon tax repeal legislation suffered a setback last week after PUP withdrew support after advice from the clerk of the Senate, Rosemary Laing, that an amendment was unconstitutional.

Government hopes carbon tax repeal will be third time lucky

The carbon tax repeal legislation goes to the Senate today for what the Federal Government hopes will be the final time.

The legislation sailed through the House of Representatives last night after Clive Palmer confirmed his senators would support the repeal legislation.

Mr Palmer says he is satisfied savings from scrapping the carbon tax will be passed on to consumers.

But consumer lobby group Choice says consumers should not expect a noticeable reduction in their grocery bills once the tax is repealed.
