Rolf Harris sentenced to more than five years' jail

Disgraced Australian entertainer Rolf Harris is spending his first night in prison after being sentenced to five years and nine months in jail for indecently assaulting four girls in the UK between 1968 and 1986.

The sentence was handed down yesterday by Justice Nigel Sweeney at London's Southwark Crown Court, where Harris was found guilty on 12 charges of indecent assault earlier this week.

"Your reputation lies in ruins, you have been stripped of your honours, but you have no-one to blame but yourself," Justice Sweeney told the convicted paedophile.

The 84-year-old will not spend the entire sentence behind bars, with Justice Sweeney announcing half the sentence will be non-custodial.

Digital disruption could cost Australian banks $27 billion a year

Australia's big banks face the prospect of losing 30 per cent of their revenue to a new wave of digital competitors.

Research from Macquarie's banking analysts says up to $27 billion is under threat from so-called digital disruptors in the banks' key payments and lending markets.

The Macquarie team says most immediate threat is the $9 billion payments market, which faces competition from alternative platforms.

Longer term, Macquarie says banks face an even bigger problem with their lending business.

Cancer risk prompts call to test more industrial sites

The Greens are calling for testing of more former industrial sites in South Australia for toxic pollution.

The residents of three streets at Clovelly Park in Adelaide's southern suburbs are to be moved out because of a carcinogenic substance detected in air, water and soil.

The industrial solvent trichloroethylene was used decades ago in the area by automotive firm Monroe Australia.
