  • The unofficial election campaign will start today, with Australia looking set to go to the polls on July 2. The PM was handed a double dissolution trigger yesterday after the Senate again voted down the Government's bill to re-establish the construction watchdog

  • Italian President Sergio Mattarella says hundreds of people appear to have died in the latest migrant tragedy in the Mediterranean. There are unconfirmed media reports 400 people perished after boats capsized near the Egyptian coast

  • A new study from the UK and Singapore suggests women may be more affected by shiftwork than men. Researchers said women were more likely to be impaired by "being awake at the wrong time of day"

Dinosaurs may have struggled to survive for tens of millions of years before they finally went extinct. A new fossil study suggests dinosaurs were in decline before a giant asteroid struck Earth

  • 2:00pm AEST: Question Time is scheduled to begin in Canberra

  • 2:00pm AEST: Creditors will meet for the first time since steelmaker Arrium went into voluntary administration. The meeting will take place in Sydney and will be webcast to Whyalla
