The rhythm of federal politics, the underlying beat, has been ugly for too long. But gradually over the past few weeks, that has started to change. Bob Hawke, John Howard and Kevin Rudd led a community debate on ideas from opposition. Now, with the agenda free of most of the nasty political distractions, Abbott is starting to do likewise.
