Deadly blasts hit Boston Marathon

Two people have been killed and at least 23 injured after two explosions ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

TV footage showed streets littered with debris and blood, with paramedics carrying stretchers.

Boston Police said there were "simultaneous explosions" near the finish line. There are reports that more than 100 people have been injured.

Dozens of bloodied people have been taken from the scene on stretchers and in wheelchairs.

The explosions occurred as thousands of runners finished the marathon, with crowds watching and cheering, about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line.

Boston is in lockdown as police hunt for explosive devices. DFAT says it is not aware of any Australians being hurt.

The polls could tighten before the September election but Labor is still destined to be severely punished for incompetence and woeful economic management.

The fact is that Labor has abandoned any pretensions about economic management - Labor will lose the next election having not produced a surplus at any time since federal MP Wyatt Roy was born.
