Collingwood board backs McGuire to stay on

Collingwood's board has offered its "full support" to embattled president Eddie McGuire in the wake of his racist comments about Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes.

McGuire met with board members today after spending the morning apologising for his comments, in which he suggested that Goodes - dubbed an "ape" by a young Collingwood fan on Friday night - could star in a promotional stunt for the new King Kong musical.

"Eddie has been a magnificent president of this club and his ongoing leadership is essential," Pies vice-president Jack Kennedy said in a statement issued by the club.
