Radical sheikhs recruiting Muslims to fight in Syria

A secretive and radical program operating inside an Islamic book store in western Sydney is encouraging young Muslims to fight in Syria, a 7.30 investigation has revealed.

The bloody conflict in Syria has become a magnet and a new training ground for militants around the world, including Australians.

Now counter-terrorism police say they are investigating a program of lectures at the Al Risalah bookshop, where four radical sheikhs have been encouraging Australians to get involved in the Syrian crisis.

The most famous is Abu Suhaib, known to authorities as Bilal Khazal - a former Qantas baggage handler and Osama bin Laden confidant who is serving nine years in jail for producing a DIY terrorism book.
