Prime minister-elect Kevin Rudd is expected to be sworn in this morning at Government House after staging a dramatic comeback in a leadership ballot last night. Almost three years to the day since he was ousted from the job by Julia Gillard, he seized the leadership back by winning a Caucus ballot 57 votes to 45. Factional leader Bill Shorten again played a pivotal role in the leadership coup, announcing half an hour before the ballot that he had switched allegiances. Mr Rudd says Labor can now "start cooking with gas" and has vowed to take the fight to Opposition Leader Tony Abbott in the next election.
