The Queensland Government says it will consider legal action to extend jail time for Daniel Morcombe's convicted killer, Brett Peter Cowan. The 44-year-old serial sex offender was yesterday sentenced to life in prison for the abduction and murder of the 13-year-old schoolboy on the Sunshine Coast in December 2003. Cowan will be eligible for parole after 20 years. In sentencing, Justice Roslyn Atkinson said Cowan's crimes had a shocking impact and she made it clear she did not believe Cowan should be granted parole when he is eligible, describing him as a "convincing liar". Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie says he is reviewing the sentence, and the Queensland Government is seeking advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions. More » |
