A fresh High Court challenge could be launched after the Immigration Minister indicated he would personally apply a "national interest" test for permanent protection applications from people who arrive without a visa.

Refugee advocate David Manne has signalled a possible second legal challenge, telling the ABC the move is extraordinary.

CBA's scandal response falls short of restitution

Commonwealth Bank chief Ian Narev has broken his bizarre week-long silence to offer a comprehensive apology to customers who have been systematically defrauded for more than a decade by the bank.

Crash victim's mother demands Tasmanian DPP stand down

The family of a young woman killed in a car crash involving Tasmania's chief prosecutor wants him to be stripped of his position.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Tim Ellis, was found guilty of causing the death of 27-year-old Natalia Pearn in March last year by negligent driving.

During five days of hearings this year, the Magistrate's Court in Hobart heard Ellis' car was travelling in the wrong lane for about a kilometre before it crashed head-on with Ms Pearn's car near Oatlands, in Tasmania's Midlands.

"How can he, in all God's green earth, go back to that job after taking Natalia's life or taking anyone's life, and prosecute people for breaking the law?" Ms Pearn's mother told Channel 9.
