Mothership asylum processing already rejected as illegal says former official

A former senior immigration official says the idea of processing refugee claims on an ocean-going 'mothership' has previously been dismissed as unlawful, amid unconfirmed reports that two boatloads of asylum seekers have been intercepted in the Indian Ocean.

Passengers on one of the asylum seeker boats - believed to be Tamils from Sri Lanka - have reportedly been interviewed on board an Australian Customs ship by teleconference to have their refugee claims assessed.

CBA's scandal response falls short of restitution

Commonwealth Bank chief Ian Narev has broken his bizarre week-long silence to offer a comprehensive apology to customers who have been systematically defrauded for more than a decade by the bank.

It is the first time the bank has acknowledged the extent of the problem and its attempts to cover it up, following a scathing Senate Committee report last Thursday that called for a Royal Commission into the scandal.

But the remediation process proffered by Narev falls well short of what is required for restitution.

Carcinogen danger forces Adelaide residents to move

Some residents in an Adelaide southern suburb are being told to relocate after a carcinogen was detected in air, soil and groundwater.

Clovelly Park residents have known of toxic contamination in the area for years but thought they were safe in their houses.
