Slipper moves to Palmer's new party

Federal independent MP Peter Slipper has joined billionaire Clive Palmer's new political party.

The United Australia Party, announced by the Queensland mining magnate late last month, says it has accepted the former parliamentary speaker's membership.

Mr Slipper currently holds the Queensland Sunshine Coast seat of Fisher, but the United Australia Party has already endorsed its member Bill Schoch to contest it in the September election.
