Live: Tornado devastates Oklahoma towns

A huge tornado has destroyed hundreds of houses and sparked fires in parts of Oklahoma City.

Local media is reporting that two schools are among the buildings destroyed and children and teachers are believed to be trapped.

Storm spotters estimate the tornado, which struck mid afternoon, to be 3.2 kilometres wide.

US media is already describing it as one of the most destructive tornados in recent history.
