Labor Senator Doug Cameron hits back amid disunity claims

Labor Senator Doug Cameron has dismissed claims that Labor Caucus is racked by hatred and division as polls show the party heading for defeat in September's election.

Last night Coalition frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull told Lateline that a Labor insider who was once a divorce lawyer told him that: "The hatred in our party room makes the most unhappy, vicious, bitter divorce look like a picnic."

This morning a fired-up Senator Cameron said Mr Turnbull was "full of hyperbole. He's full of front and no substance."

Economic data does not win elections

It is always a bit humorous to me that to quote economic data is often seen as exhibiting bias, because economic data doesn't decide elections.

Whenever I write a column on the economy in which I suggest things are going pretty well for Australia, I'm hit with a fair bit of criticism from people suggesting I am a Labor shill. At the same time such columns will also be used by those who support Labor as evidence that it should be re-elected.

The problem for both sides is that if we wound back the clock to 2007 we could pretty much trade Labor for Liberal and do the same analysis.
