| By Lucy Sweeney Sea Shepherd Australia says one of its ships has collided with a Japanese whaling boat after an "unprovoked attack" in the Southern Ocean. Captain Peter Hammarstedt says the Bob Barker received some damage when the Nisshin Maru crossed its bow this morning. "These harpoon ships came in heavy and hard. They hit my bow with about 300 metres of steel cable with the express intent of causing damage to my rudder and propellers," he said. The Federal Government says it is urgently seeking more details on the reported collision, and is urging both parties in the dispute to make safety a priority. The incident comes eight days after the Sea Shepherd Fleet blocked off the slipway of Japanese factory vessel Nisshin Maru, suspending whaling activity. More » |
