Schapelle Corby parole decision due tomorrow

Schapelle Corby will know tomorrow if she will be released from the Indonesian jail where she has spent the last nine years.

Indonesia's justice minister Amir Syamsuddin has confirmed that he will make a decision on Corby's parole appeal tomorrow (Friday).

The former Gold Coast beauty student was jailed for 20 years in Bali in 2005 after authorities found 4.1 kilograms of marijuana in her bodyboard bag at Denpasar airport the year before.

Mr Syamsuddin has told reporters in Jakarta that he has 1,700 cases to sign off on and Corby will not be receiving any special treatment.

An age of entitlement? Not quite

Any "age of entitlement" Treasurer Joe Hockey thinks existed was over years ago, but that hasn't stopped him from using the line to foreshadow deep budget cuts.

But we have to wonder if any turnaround is due to an "age of personal responsibility" or simply negative numbers laying the foundation for gains.

Banks in the firing line after ANZ fees ruling

The ANZ bank may be liable to pay its customers "tens of millions of dollars", according to the law firm that led a successful class action against the bank over its fees.

The Federal Court today handed a partial victory to ANZ customers who joined in a class action to recoup $57 million in fees.

The court ruled that the late payment fees the bank charged customers were extravagant, exorbitant and unconscionable.

But Justice Michele Gordon said that other fees the bank charged, including honour and dishonour fees, and over-limit fees on credit cards, were reasonable.

Andrew Watson, from Maurice Blackburn, says while establishing the amount owed to affected customers would take weeks, he expected to stretch into the "tens of millions of dollars".

He said the ruling also opened the way for customers of other banks to claim unfair treatment on fees.
