New military radar information suggests the missing Malaysia Airlines plane veered off course and headed west before vanishing. Interpol has all but ruled out terrorism as the cause for the missing plane, which disappeared on Saturday with 239 people on board while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Malaysian authorities have previously said flight MH370 disappeared about an hour after it took off. But a senior military officer now says the plane "changed course after Kota Bharu and took a lower altitude", and made it to the Malacca Strait off Malaysia's west coast. That would appear to rule out a sudden catastrophic mechanical failure, as it would mean the plane flew around 500km at least after its last contact with air traffic control. More » |
